REFUSING TO BE AN "ALSO-RAN"

Matthew 5:13 (NIV) — “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”

BACKGROUND AND THOUGHTS ON THE TEXT:

In a marathon, thousands of people register and run. Many of those runners are officially designated as "also-rans." They participated in the marathon, but their consequence was zero because they made no real impact on the outcome.

When Jesus declared that you are the salt of the earth, He was emphasizing usefulness and impact. Salt changes the taste of whatever it touches, preserves against corruption, and commands value. The world often mocks the Church today because many believers have lost their savor, blending into the crowd instead of standing out.

If you leave an organization, business, or community and no vacuum is created, your usefulness was exaggerated. God saved you to make a tangible difference. Rise up, stir up the grace within you, and let your life command value.

APPLICATION:

  1. Refuse to blend into corrupt societal norms; preserve godly values wherever you go.
  2. Develop your skills and spiritual capacity so that your contribution becomes indispensable.
  3. Consistently add value to others rather than demanding to be served.

PRAYER POINTS:

1.  Father, restore my spiritual savor and preserve me from becoming spiritually tasteless.

2.  Lord, deliver me from mediocrity and make my life a preserving force in my generation.

3.  I receive the grace to make a tangible, undeniable impact wherever You place me.

ACTION POINT: Perform an audit of your current engagements and eliminate one unproductive habit that wastes your time and energy.
