When Navigating Change… (1)

KEY TEXT: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT) “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

BACKGROUND AND THOUGHTS ON THE TEXT

You would agree that for positive changes to take place, there’s got to be a degree of effective communication. There are four things that determine how a person responds when someone else communicates: The atmosphere, the timing, the interest and the message. One of the reasons positive changes don’t take place in relationships and in marriage especially, is because a lot of people do not understand when it is the appropriate time, the appropriate environment, the appropriate state of mind and the appropriate manner in which their thoughts, desires and expectations should be conveyed.

Every communicator has an intended message but sometimes, the intended content gets lost in transit and a different content is perceived. Why? Because the atmosphere is not right; the timing is wrong; the intended receptor does not see anything that benefits him or her in whatever is being said; and sometimes the attitude or manner in which the message is being conveyed, leaves more to be desired.

APPLICATION: Changes are necessary but you need to understand that when you’re trying to navigate change, it is not only about you. Let your emphasis not be only on making you happy. The fulfillment and happiness of the other party matters. Understand that there is a right time, a right environment, a better attitude in which to convey your message, and the need to make your partner understand that you have his/her best interest at heart.

PRAYER: Father, give me a new attitude and help me navigate my way towards positive changes.

ACTION POINT: Do an honest review of yourself and decide on the positive changes you need to make.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Psalms 108-110, 1 Chronicles 23-25
