BACKGROUND AND THOUGHTS ON THE TEXT
When we are trying to navigate positive change, it is important that we are not selfish or self-centered. Yes, it is important we love ourselves, but while loving yourself and walking through life with great confidence, bear in mind that you have a great role to play in ensuring the peace and well-being of your partner or else. If this is not done, you will become an instrument in the hands of the devil that will cause more harm than good.
When navigating change, understand that there are things you cannot change. Bear it mind that your partner deserves more. Never forget that you are both on a journey together.
APPLICATION: What are the simple do’s that must be taken into consideration when navigating change?
- Don’t make a fuss about things you cannot change in your partner. For example, his/her height.
- Don’t bring up issues of criticism in public; your spouse needs your loving and unconditional support in public.
- Don’t refuse to frankly discuss important issues: Just be sure it’s the right timing.
- Don’t use harsh statements or express violent anger in demanding change. Practice self-control.
- Don’t nag, insult, belittle or yell at your spouse.
- Don’t compare your spouse negatively with someone else.
- Don’t make change your partner’s responsibility; commit to assisting him/her make the necessary changes.
- Don’t give unrealistic ultimatums to your spouse; give time for change.
- Don’t do it alone; make sure you secure God’s divine assistance.
PRAYER: Father, help me to reach out, and help me build formidable strength for my partner.
ACTION POINT: Do something that inconveniences you for the one you love.
